On behalf GIZ GLA starts the skills needs assessment in the Georgian transportation and logistics sector

On Behalf of the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), the Georgian Logistics Association (GLA) will start the Skills Needs Assessment in the transport and logistics (TL) sector in Georgia. The needs assessment will be focused on the identification of Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) skills gaps in the sector. In the needs assessment, 150 companies from transportation and logistics, manufacturing and trade will be participating.

Main objective of the project is to identify the sector needs to achieve a good match between the supply in terms of TVET graduates and the demands of the labor market. The initiative also targets to determine the current and future needs for transport and logistics occupations and qualifications in order to eliminate a labor shortage in the sector.

The needs assessment will include three stages. At the first stage, the companies will participate in the e-survey organized by GLA and GIZ. Main objective of the survey will be to identify the labor market needs and determine desired occupations and qualifications in the TL sector. The survey will also include TVET institutions in order to asses the existing TVET programs in TL. It will also support a TVET sector to determine the needs for future improvements as well as establishment of the new programs based on the labor market needs.

At the second stage, the focus groups with the companies will be conducted to identify the employers’ needs towards improving the structure and content of the TVET programs -particularly the dual TVET programs- and defining possible cooperation models between the companies and TVET institutions.

At the final stage, GLA and GIZ will organize a joint event to disseminate the needs assessment results to stakeholders including employers in the TL sector, TVET institutions, public and international organizations.
