GLA introduced occupational and educational standards in logistics

This week the Georgian Logistics Association (GLA) introduced the warehouse and freight forwarding specialists’ occupational and educational standards, which have been elaborated with the support of the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ). The standards have been developed based on the Skills Needs Assessment conducted by GLA last year and the European best practices in transport and logistics vocational education and training (VET).

Transportation and logistics companies, sectoral and VET experts have actively contributed to the elaboration of the above-mentioned VET standards. The main objective of this work is the implementation of dual VET programs in warehouse operations and freight forwarding from autumn 2023.

Occupational and educational standards have been discussed within two focus group meetings in which industry associations, and transportation and logistics companies have participated. Participants of the focus group meetings have validated the introduced vocational and educational standards and elaborated recommendations which are important to be considered in the implementation of the dual VET programs in warehouse operation and freight forwarding.

Since 2021, with the support of GIZ, GLA the Georgian Logistics Association supports the development of dual VET programs in the Georgian transport and logistics sector. The main objective of this initiative is the development of high-quality dual VET learning in logistics with the proactive participation of the national logistics industry.
