GLA’s Chairman met German organizations and institutions participating in the logistics vocational education and training

During the German visit, the Chairman of the Georgian Logistics Association (GLA) George Doborjginidze met with representatives of logistics companies, vocational education institutions, and the chamber of commerce and industry. The visit was conducted with the support of the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ), which supports the development of dual vocational education and training (VET) in the Georgian transport and logistics sector.

 

From the Georgian side, the managers of VET institutions and logistics companies interested in the implementation of dual VET in Logistics participated in the visit.

 

The main objective of the visit was to share experience on the development and implementation of dual VET programs in freight transportation and logistics. During the visit, meetings have been held with the operator of the Port of Duisburg (Duisport), the logistics company- Geodis, the Maritime School in Duisburg, Walther Rathenau Business College, the Chamber of Industry and Commerce of Niederrhein and Freight Transport and Logistics Association of North Rhine-Westphalia. During the meetings, the German models of the implementation of dual VET programs in freight transportation and logistics have been discussed and best practices of the cooperation between logistics companies and VET institutions were reviewed. The parties also discussed the role and activities of the German chambers of Industry and Commerce in the logistics VET. German organizations expressed an interest to support Georgia in the implementation of dual VET programs in logistics.

 

Since 2021, with the support of GIZ, GLA actively contributes to the development of dual vocational training in the Georgian transport and logistics sector. The main objective of this initiative is the development of high-quality dual vocational training in logistics with the active participation of the national logistics industry. In close cooperation with the private sector, GLA developed occupational and education standards for Warehouse Specialists and Freight Forwarding Clerks. Accordingly, with the support of GIZ and GLA, the implementation of two dual VET programs is planned for 2023.
