GLA organizes logistics professional skills focus group meeting

On 31 May with a support of the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) the Georgian Logistics Association (GLA) organized a focus group meeting to develop occupational standards in the freight forwarding. Representatives of freight forwarding, manufacturing and trade companies as well as the International Freight Forwarders Association and the Georgian Vocational Skills Agency have participated in the meeting. 

Within the focus group GLA presented the European best practices of occupational standards in freight forwarding. Participants of the focus group discussed the skills needs of the national industry and defined professional competences for development of occupational standards in freight forwarding.

Need for development of dual vocational training in freight forwarding and warehouse logistics have been defined by the Skills Needs Assessment conducted by GLA last year. More than 50 companies have participated in the survey to evaluate skills gaps in logistics. The study reported a shortage of experienced workers in freight forwarding and warehouse logistics. Implementation of dual vocational trainings in these spheres have been determined as one of the most important priorities for development of logistics sector in Georgia.

Since 2021, with the support of GIZ, the Georgian Logistics Association supports development of dual vocational trainings in the Georgian transport and logistics sector. Main objective of this initiative is development of high quality dual vocational trainings in logistics with an active participation of the national logistics industry.
